The International School of Kigali offers an international education with a focus on an American curriculum. It seeks to offer the latest in educational research and proven best practices from an international perspective. The American curriculum was chosen as the basis of the curriculum as it combines the Scope and Sequence found in the standards and benchmarks proposed by the AERO (American Education Reaches Out) and the McREL (Mid-Continent Research and Educational Laboratories).
ISK offers a pre-K through 12th grade education. Small classes allow for individual attention and for pacing the curriculum according to the needs of the students. Founded in 2009 ISK seeks accreditation through CIS and through NEASC. It is proposed this process will begin in the fall of 2010. The accreditation process is being utilized in order to guarantee ISK offers high standards and quality education in order to assure smooth transition into college or university or into another educational institution.
ISK was established as a nonsectarian school to meet the needs of expatriate children whose parents are working with foreign Embassies or with Aid Agencies as well as Rwandan families seeking an education preparing their children for college and university admission worldwide.
ISK has experienced significant growth since its inception in the Spring of 2009. This past year has seen the student body double in size and it is expected this growth will continue. As a result ISK is seeking to expand its facilities and hopes to have a purpose built building within three years with a designed cafeteria/auditorium, gymnasium and library.
ISK is a true international community with faculty and students representing 39 different countries. It has a pupil- centered focus allowing the admission of students from all faiths and nationalities. We believe our students are being educated to be global citizens and to serve a global world and towards this end we seek to instill the values and integrity promoting an understanding of international diversity and what it means to be a global citizen.
